Maybe the Mayan calendar was supposed to end 2/2/12, not 12/21/12.
Crosby-Ironton (11-7) stunned No. 8 Staples-Motley 46-30 Thursday night in a Mid-State Conference matchup.
Shannon Lundgren scored 11 points and Chelsey Bonsante contributed 10 for the lady Rangers who became just the fourth team to defeat the Cardinals in 18 tries.
None of the previous three victors so thoroughly thwarted S-M the way C-I did.
The Cardinals’ 30 points were a season low for a team that averages nearly 70 points per game.
What’s more, Staples-Motley defeated this very same Rangers team 73-31 earlier in the season.
Leading scorer Jasmine McGillvray was held scoreless, as the team shot a miserable 23 percent from the floor, including 5-of-32 from beyond the arc.
The loss blemishes S-M’s previously perfect 7-0 record in conference play.
Up next: Pequot Lakes (10-8) Thursday, Feb. 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15.
